“What is old blue?”
When I was 5 years old, I got a tow dog for my birthday. It was the coolest thing, it had a flashlight built into his paw, a strobe light on his hat with a built in motion sensor, so he was my guard dog. And he was tasked with protecting my room from the many sisters who would enter uninvited.
His name was Ol’ Blue, and this is the what he looked like:
Old Blue is the first car I ever owned as well.
My first truck was a late 80’s model GMC Sierra Extended bed pickup. It had the weirdest issue. It would backfire every time you let off the gas. It was a manual transmission and baby blue in color. People could hear me a mile away, and it’s no wonder where it’s nickname came from. It looked something like this:
Ol’ Blue was its name, and I kept it till it died.
Next was my computer. I had never built a PC before, so this was quite an endeavor. It was 2001 and I had just discovered tigerdirect. A website where they sold computers and computer components. Thus far I had only seen places sell the latter. So when I had saved enough money, I bought the case for it first. Spent almost 40 bucks on it. It was actually the cheapest case I could find that wasn’t black, grey or some other soul-sucking color. After living for an unprecedented amount of time I finally traded it to a friend of mine. But not before it earned the title “Old Blue” by me and those I traded to. They continued to use it for several more years, keeping the nickname.
Then the house. Both the house I grew up in and am living in now.

An old fixer upper with good bones and a lot of history. Just seeing this house when I come down the driveway makes me feel good.
If you’re thinking “Old Blue” is some representation of that inner warm fuzzy feeling, then you’re half right. The thing is, that really was the name I gave all those things.
Old Blue is all these things, and now my farm bears its name.
Good ol’ Blue.
